Is Expense & Save really free?

Yes. The core product — expenses, income, budgets, recurring, goals, debts, investments, AI insights, receipt OCR, voice logging — is free for personal use. There is no paid tier today.

How is my financial data stored?

Your data lives in a MongoDB database scoped to your user account. Every request is authenticated with a JWT and every database query is filtered by your user id. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt; the plain-text password is never persisted.

Do you sell my data or show me third-party ads?

We do not sell your data. We show Google AdSense on non-form public and dashboard pages to keep the service free. Ads never appear on login, forms, dialogs, notifications, or the AI chat.

Can I export my transactions?

Yes. Profile → Backup lets you export a full JSON dump of your account, or a password-encrypted (AES-GCM + PBKDF2-200k) version. Import is symmetric.

How do I delete my account?

Profile → Security → Delete Account. It cascades across all your transactions, budgets, goals, debts, investments, recurring plans, workspaces and notifications. It's irreversible.

Does Expense & Save connect to my bank?

No. Bank sync is not currently supported — we designed the app for manual and imported entries because that keeps costs down and keeps your credentials out of our system. CSV import handles most bank statements in one click.

Can I use it in a currency other than USD?

Yes. Every account picks a preferred currency; log entries in any currency and totals convert automatically using daily-cached rates from frankfurter.app (with a static fallback).

Is my data encrypted?

All traffic uses HTTPS with modern TLS. Passwords are bcrypt-hashed. Optional encrypted backups use AES-GCM with a PBKDF2-derived key from your chosen password.

Can I share a workspace with my partner?

Yes. Create a workspace, share the invite code, and each member keeps their private data. Only rolled-up totals appear on the shared view.

What AI is used for insights?

We route AI features (insights, recommendations, chat, voice, receipt OCR) through the Emergent LLM key. Only the minimum data required for each request is sent. Providers are not permitted to use your data to train models.

Is there a mobile app?

The web app is a full Progressive Web App — install it from your browser and it behaves like a native app. An Android build is also being prepared.
